Moving The Phoenix to the new venue in University Road
Here is the history of the move in pictures so far....
In August, removing the Bose speakers... |
...and Philips FP20 projectors from the old booth. Just one to go... |
...with the other one waiting for the lorry. |
The last items out - the projector mounts. |
Both projectors in the new booth (bit of a tight squeeze!). Working out how to wire them in. |
Some weeks later (after the electrical works) Jim laced the test reel, struck the 1.6kW Xenon lamp arc, ran the motors, lifted the dowser and.. |
... we got our very FIRST picture in our NEW auditorium! There's still a bit of projector aligning still to do!
|
|
And still some work on getting the rest of the Dolby SX surround system going.
|
An instrumentation microphone 'listening' to the test signals to get the sound system adjusted just right. |
Not even the projectors escape having their sound pickups calibrated.
|
After getting the changeover circuits working, some struggling to get the lenses and projector alignments spot on. |
After 'La Vie en Rose' we were not happy with the image brightness, so we've now got 2kW lamps, the maximum the Kineton lamphouses will take! |
The beam alignment problems with Projector No 2 lamphouse have now been fixed. There is still a faint, centre-screen 'corona' visible during dark scenes which we're still investigating. We are STILL working to provide a feed to the auditorium AFILS system so that hearing-impaired patrons will have a 'T' listening option as well. We now have Dolby 5.1 surround sound available when/if we need to show DVD presentations. We're still not entirely happy with the auditorium sound quality and will be attending to this, with the AFILS system, during our Season break.
